The Luminary The Brennan Coven Volume 1 Elle J Rossi 9781505600421 Books
In Elle J. Rossi's The Luminary, Ryken, a dark prince of the netherworld, schemes to destroy humanity by using an army of soul-sucking slayers. Meera, a young woman unaware of her witchy powers, may be our only hope. She's a Luminary, and as such, she can destroy the Source - a ball of magick Ryken and his minions use to transform their ghoulish bodies into highly-attractive human hunks. (I would have preferred some evil women, too, but all of the slayers in the book are male. Maybe next time, Elle. Please?)If Meera can't save us, maybe Ghanem will. He's a horned good guy known as a guardian who has the ability to appear human and who doesn't like witches (spicing up his eventual relationship with Meera). Ghanem has plenty of baggage in his backstory, and he wants to redeem himself by destroying the source.
Enough about plot - a highly overrated concept in my opinion. If life's gazillion distractions cause you to set a book down, what pulls you back later to pick it up again? For me, it's voice and characterization. That's not to say this book doesn't have a good plot. It worked for me. But Elle's hip, edgy voice pulled me in, first and foremost . . . and sent me scurrying to the Internet to find more of her books. (Not much out there yet, but sequels are promised, so yay!) Her characterization is top-notch as well. I bonded with the hero and heroine and loved their push/pull relationship while all hell was breaking loose. In addition, the half dozen or so side characters were all unique and interesting in their own right.

The Luminary The Brennan Coven Volume 1 Elle J Rossi 9781505600421 Books Reviews
Very interesting characters with cool skills and a surprising links to each other along with a very vividly depicted alternate realms combined with some serious action comes together for a great read! I am looking forward to jumping into the next book in the series to see what develops with these characters. I enjoyed the darker aspect of this story. The wittiness of her characters was a perfect counter balance to the edginess of the plot, which sometimes had me anxious to get past the battles so I could hopefully find some relief and something good happening!! -)
Firstly, I need to say how happy I am to be able to host a review stop on another of Elle's blog tours. Last month I had the pleasure of hosting a review and interview with Elle on her blog tour for her book Chasing Fate click HERE to check out my post. So, when I saw that one of my favourite tour companies would be hosting a tour for her newest book I couldn't resist signing up and I'm really glad I did.
When I read Elle's other book last month I was really struck by her writing style. I really enjoyed how she created the story in that book and I wondered what it would be like if she wrote a full length novel. Now, that I've read her full length novel I can't help but love her writing even more.
In this book I think that Elle's talent was really able to shine through. I haven't read a lot of novels with witches but the ones that I have read are absolutely nothing like the witches in this novel. I really felt for Meera. She had no idea what she was for so long I can only imagine how hard it must have been for her to continue living yet not knowing what was wrong. However, as you probably guessed from the summary she eventually does learn what and who she is and I'm glad to say that the story surrounding that came together really well. Even Ghanem was introduced into the story in a great way instead of being thrust into the story which I've seen a lot of authors doing lately.
I loved the story of Meera and Ghanem but what I liked most was that there was more of a paranormal mystery/adventure to the book rather than it being all romance. I love how Elle always seems to work a lot of action and strong female characters into her stories and like Chasing Fate, The Luminary was no different.
I finished this book over a period of about two days even though I could have read it in one sitting I've come to enjoy Elle's writing so much I just had to spread it out. I really loved this book and I wish that I hadn't finished it because it was so good. I can't wait to read the next book in the series but since I have no idea when the next book comes out it won't be soon enough.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, including those new to the paranormal romance genre. This book is one that is not to be missed. If you like a novel where you're always anticipating what comes next this might just be your next read!

Vibrant storytelling and a sexy romance that had me enthralled throughout. Elle J Rossi's fresh and clever voice accentuated a compelling world of witches and guardians, making "The Luminary" a wickedly scrumptious page-turner. Loved the chemistry between Meera and Ghanem, and the villain of this suspenseful tale actually gave me the chills (and creeps). Anxiously awaiting the next story in the Brennan Coven. Bring on the magical mayhem!
"The Luminary" by Elle J Rossi is a story filled with sexy and vibrant witches, strong and irresistible guardians, and the evil and sinister beings that threaten them. Elle J Rossi's vivid and exciting descriptions pull you into the pages, revealing magickal characters and mystical worlds! The witches in this story each have their own unique and fun personality leaving you hungry to learn more about them. This is the first in the Brennan Coven trilogy and I am so excited to read the next two!
